The office of the Financial Commissioner (Ombudsman) was established and operates on the basis of the Law on the Establishment and Operation of the Unified Body for Out-of-Court Resolution of Financial Disputes of 2010, as amended and/or replaced from time to time. The Body is a Legal Entity of Public Law and is managed by a nine-member board of directors.
Since December 2014, the Financial Commissioner has started accepting applications for the appointment of a Mediator, while in February 2015, it also started accepting applications for consumer complaints against financial companies such as banks, credit acquisition companies, investment companies, insurance companies, etc. From November 2019, the Financial Commissioner is considered an Alternative Dispute Resolution Body.
The current Financial Commissioner is Valentina Georgiadou.
